Last Chance for the Public Survey on Building Code Updates
The Louisville City Council will begin to consider updates to the City’s building codes at their meeting on Tuesday 6 September. After adopting the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (and several Louisville-specific amendments), City Council directed City staff to initiate a study of further potential building codes updates. City Council gave this direction in recognition that building codes represent one of the most robust avenues for municipalities in Colorado to mitigate climate change. In particular, City Council will entertain a requirement for full electrification of all new single-family homes and a variety of proposals for strengthening commercial building codes. City staff engaged the consulting firms Lotus Engineering and Group 14 to conduct this study. In collaboration with City staff, these firms also conducted a public engagement campaign surrounding their study’s findings, one element of which is a public engagement survey.
I encourage everyone to complete the survey before the end of the day on Friday 5 August. After participating in a few other elements of this campaign, I took the survey a few days ago. Although I have heard a variety of complaints about the survey from a variety of residents, I found the survey relatively painless and shorter than expected. You can access the survey through the Building for the Future webpage on Engage Louisville. This website also hosts all of the information presented during the public engagement campaign.
